10. Grand Theft Auto III

Grand Theft Auto III was released in the year 2001; it is a videogame filled with exploration and battle-filled drama that is compatible with play station 2. The storyline is about a criminal, Claude, who is set up by his girlfriend during a bank robbery. Even though Claude does not speak, all the critics agree that the game is well designed in 3D. It brings out the characters to life and is well presented. Due to this, the game has enough popularity among video game fans. However, the violence in the game is not appreciated by many, who think it’s too much.

Doom introduced a shootout among characters concept in video games; it combines science and horror with a player depicted as a marine who is under attack by weird characters from hell. The player can make changes as they play and make their role better, more active, and effective in the battle. The game came into the market in 1993, and the market uptake was impressive.

Three years Quake was released into the market; it had the same plot and theme as Doom. It was made using better software; hence, it was an improvement and better presentation than Doom. Comparing the two video games, Quack looks like a better version of Doom with the same plot and characters sharing the same features, but Quake enabled multiple players to compete. It was more engaging and made it a forward-thinking game. The player who died would arise again and start all over after losing all their collected weapons.

This game set ace for 3D games with shooters and most games with the first-person shooter borrowed much from the features of this game.  The player has to go through a level of victory as they navigate the Nazi bunkers fighting the enemy (Nazi). It is a violent movie where the player not only uses a gun but knives and other weapons that they collect from the enemies that they kill.

The player must avoid injuries to keep moving forward because once they die, they have to begin again, and the collected weapon is taken away. Points are lost when the player is injured and gain as the player continues killing the enemy. The game is engaging as the player makes discoveries of hidden treasures and weapons as they move forward. Each level has its own set of challenges and the complexity increases as the player progress.

Super Mario 64 was released in 1992 in a 3D videogame. It was a vast invention for the Nintendo 64. Further, it was not complicated, and the plot was on a character who had to rescue a princess. It was easy to play with linear obstacles that a player has to overcome. The Legend of Zelda was made in 1994 and released into the European market then.

It was designed in 3D with a battle-themed plot where a player is on a quest to stop an invasion by an evil king known as Ganondorf from the Gerudo tribe. The game introduced features that lock the game if the player misses a target or the buttons when the scenario changes. Interestingly, music is used throughout the game to control the characters. This was another new thing that the game introduced.

This game was a huge success and was sold millions of copies all over the world. It was rated as an innovative game of all time and received many accolades. Later on, in 2011 and 2015, the game was reproduced with modern technology and still got good reviews.

It was presented in an advanced way compared to the preceding video games available then; it was particularly applauded because a player was able to use the computer mouse to play. Later, this game would inspire the production of advanced games that engaged the players through innovative and dense features.

The plot is about an emperor, Fredrick IV, who is in trouble after accumulating too much debt caused by internal wars with his relatives. The only way to settle the debt is to get a spice called mélange from afar off-planet, Arrakis. He promises the commander who delivers the highest amount of spice the governorship of Arrakis. Three commanders take up the challenges, and the player can choose to be one of them. The player fights and attacks the other commanders to deliver to the emperor.

The buttons help the player to create different moves giving the video funs freedom to decide how the game will be carried out and setting new results with every game. This game made history as the bestselling video game and opened the new ideas of fighting games.

It was a well-thought concept because the player can play with another human or with a computer-enabled opponent. It made it fun either way with the competitive feature, an idea that is found in all successful video games.

Space War marked the first entry of gaming into the US Library of Congress. The developer of this amazing game was Steve Russell, but Wayne Wiitanen and Martin Graetz assisted him. Russel also got help from Steve Piner and Bob Sanders in programming the game.

Since the game was created within the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, it encouraged other employees and students to keep developing the game and making it better.

Tennis for two is an online game created in 1958. The developer used analog computer technology. William Higinbotham was a physicist and developed the game using Donner Model 30, an analog computer that belonged to the government. It was exhibited at the Brookhaven National Laboratory’s yearly public exhibition. It was an instant hit with people lining up just to have a glance at the game. The following decade the game was all forgotten, but later technology was dismantled and recreated by Brookhaven.

Two aluminum controllers are used to play the game. it was read after three weeks of hard work and assistance from Robert V. Dvorak, who was a technician. Additionally, the tennis court can be seen from the side and to play the game, you adjust the knobs, which are in their controllers. To hit the tennis ball, you press the button.

It not only changed the gaming industry but helped to jumpstart it. It is one of the earliest games to use graphical display and project just to provide entertainment and not academic research. This game is celebrated as the first video game.
